- 4. Occupational Therapist
In order to obtain an ASD Assessment from our THAAT team:
First and foremost, a referral to Paediatrician, Dr Rachel Madhwan, is required. We have a Medical and Allied Health Approach to our ASD Assessments, with Paediatrician, Dr Rachel Madhwan, integral to the assessment process and key facilitator of our team approach.
Our Psychologist, Dr Riham Aboussennah, (Evolve Minds) and Speech Pathologists (Living Without Boundaries) will work closely with our Paediatrician throughout the assessment and diagnostic process. Background information, presentation and assessment results will be thoroughly considered and evaluated as a multidisciplinary team against the diagnostic criteria.
In sum:
Initially, a referral for an ASD THAAT team assessment may be actioned via TreeHaus intake on 9397 4499. Otherwise, contacting WilliamstownKids Paediatrician intake on 0473 755 484 is an alternative option. All THAAT team ASD assessments require an initial consultation to be booked with Paediatrician, Dr Rachel Madwhan, to establish whether an ASD assessment is indicated and which of the 4 services are required. Sometimes, it may be beneficial for an initial consultation to be attended with one or more of the 4 TreeHaus Autism Assessment and Therapy team members to decide whether a full assessment is required.
If a full assessment is required, each practitioner, following the completion of their individual assessments, will convene and consolidate their findings as a multidisciplinary team. Once the THAAT team has reviewed their assessment results and discussed their clinical stance, a determination will be made by our Paediatrician as to whether a diagnosis for ASD is applicable.
The process from commencing to conclusion will take approximately 1-3 sessions per practitioner over a 3 week period before the THAAT team may convene and correspond with the Paediatrician and a diagnostic decision be made. This is to ensure a comprehensive multidisciplinary team assessment. A feedback consultation will follow with the THAAT practitioner/s and parents.
