We have a Medical and Allied Health Approach to our ASD Assessments, involving our Paediatrician Dr Rachel Madhwan as key to our team approach. In order to receive an ASD Assessment from our THAAT team an referral to our paediatrician Dr Rachel Madhwan will required.
- Paediatrician
- Speech Pathology
- Psychology
- Occupational Therapy
Our paediatrician Dr Rachel Madhwan is an integral part of the assessment for Autism.
Our psychologists Sally Rigley and Jeandre Viljoen, speech therapist Georgie Labb and occupational therapist Carly Treloar will all work closely with our paediatrician to make a decision with regard to making a diagnosis for Autism.
Initially a referral for an ASD assessment will go via intake on 9397 4499. The intake worker or paediatrician will establish whether the child being referred requires all four services for assessment depending on the symptoms described over the phone or upon review with the paediatrician. Sometimes it is beneficial for the child to have an initial consult with one or more of the four TreeHaus Autism Assessment and Therapy team members and then decide from there whether a full assessment is required.
If a full assessment is considered required, each team member will undertake individual assessments and then convene their findings and opinions with one another. The THAAT team will consolidate their findings and their reports to the paediatrician to then be decided whether a diagnosis for ASD will be made or not.
The process from beginning to conclusion can take approximately 1-3 sessions per therapist over a 2-3 week period before the THAAT team then convene and correspond with the paediatrician for a decision to be made. This is to enable a comprehensive assessment to be made. A feedback consultation with the child's parents will also be required with the THAAT practitioner/s.
